Welcome To The Dance Haven’s Class Descriptions Page.  All classes are graded by age and ability.  Each class is designed to teach techniques in a positive way to allow the learning process to be fun, yet fulfilling through constructive teaching methods.  Not sure, which class is the right one?  Contact us and we will help you make the decision that will allow for an exciting and rewarding dance class.



Pre-Teen -Teen Continued

Beginner Ballet
- Ages 11-18 This class is for students who demonstrate beginner knowledge of the basic elements of ballet who have had some previous ballet training, and have a basic understanding of classical ballet vocabulary. Class will include barre and centre floor exercises, with combinations moving across the floor. Emphasis is placed on correct body alignment, and development of whole body movement and musicality.

Intermediate Ballet - Ages 11-18 - Students who demonstrate intermediate knowledge of the elements of ballet. This class expands further into ballet terminology and steps in a progression from barre to center work that builds an understanding of rudimentary ballet technique.  The intermediate class emphasis on developing technical strength and movement quality.  Students must have prior ballet training in beginner/intermediate classes to attend this class.   Ballet students will gain the benefits of poise, grace, proper posture, and self-assurance, along with a solid foundation for all forms of dance.

Advanced Ballet - Ages 13-18 - Students who demonstrate a good foundation knowledge of all elements of classical ballet terminology and technique.   Advanced students required to have completed beginner and intermediate levels and are recommended to take additional ballet classes at no additional cost.  This class consist of a structured ballet barre', adagio, petite and grande allegro.  Center work focuses on coordination, musicality, and performance quality.  Ballet students will gain the benefits of poise, grace, proper posture, and self-assurance, along with a solid foundation for all forms of dance.

Pointe Ages 13 -18- For students who demonstrate technical proficiency and knowledge of elements learned in ballet. Students are further introduced to more advanced combinations and exercises designed to improve accuracy, speed and the ability to link movements taught in class to performance choreography. Pointe is introduced to girls who show adequate strength and accurate technique.  Each student is carefully evaluated before starting study on Pointe. Sufficient understanding of correct placement and alignment must be demonstrated before Pointe instruction begins thus decreasing the possible risk of injury.  Students must have had five consecutive years of ballet and teacher approval before taking this class.  Students also need to be enrolled in an additional Ballet class twice a week.  It is recommended that students get a bone scan  from a doctor before approaching pointe class. This class is available by Teacher Recommendation only.  One number will be performed in the annual recital.

Beginner Teen Lyrical Ages 11-18 - A hybrid of ballet, jazz and modern dance, Lyrical is one of the most popular styles of dance for young women, in particular. It is more emotive than jazz, less codified than ballet and pulls movement vocabulary from modern dance. Lyrical incorporates a musical flow of rhythms and disciplinary dance technique.  Students will learn combinations that are set to slower pop songs and ballads. The class focuses on strength and flexibility techniques in center and across the floor combinations.  Students will perform one number in the annual recital.

Intermediate Teen Lyrical Ages 12-18 - A hybrid of ballet, jazz and modern dance, Lyrical is one of the most popular styles of dance for young women, in particular. Tap Intermediate  - Ages 11-18 – This tap class will incorporate a variation of more difficult tap technique and rhythms through barre and center floor exercises.  Students will learn more terminology and challanging combinations at an intermediate level. Students should have have at least 5-7 years tap experience to be in this class. Students will in our annual recital.

Tap Advanced Competition - Ages 12-18 – This tap class will incorporate a variation of intermediate/advanced tap technique and rhythms through barre and center floor exercises.  Students should have 6 years of a solid tap foundation and demonstrate intermediate and advanced skills to participate in this class.  Students will learn more terminology and challanging combinations and will compete in local competition and annual recital.  

RDT III/ Competition Ages 12-18 - This class is for intermediate to advanced students who want to further their dance education. This program is designed to prepare students in the technical and performance skills necessary to compete for post-secondary study and career development.  Please note that the College Prep. Program requires a high level of commitment from the student and parent.  Special outside performances will be mandatory.  Students participating in RDT III are required to take a minimum of two additional subjects a week, Advanced Ballet and one Flex class a week.  Students are required to  participate in the Opening Number class that starts in October.  They will enter in local competitions and perform in three additional numbers in the annual recital.   Note:  Students must have been in RDT II or audition at a highter level before being selected for the class .


Teen Muscial Comedy/ Competition Class - Ages 12-18 - A popular dance class that focuses on classical, modern, and contemporary musical theater jazz dance.  This class is expressive and allows students to roll play.  Students need to have at least two years of training in ballet or jazz and are required to take two additional subjects in addition to this class.  Students may be required to take an exta Ballet Class by instructor.  Students will perform in our annual production scene in our recital which is usually based on a musical.  Students will also enter in one or two competitions per season.  Strict attendance is enforced.

Advanced Hip Hop Competition - Ages 12-18 - This is an advanced Hip Hop class for students who have taken the prior classes in the Hip Hop program, and have been promoted by their teacher.  This class uses complex rhythms in connection with advanced body alignment to explore popping, locking, and tricks involved in basic break dancing.  Students will be able to perform a variety of hip hop styles from flow to pop.  Choreography lessons vary each class to prepare the student for the fast paced world of Hip Hop Dance. They will compete in local competitions and in our annual recital.  Strict Attendance is enforced.

Modern DanceAges 12 - 18-  Previous Ballet & Jazz knowledge is required to be successful in this class.  Modern dance, a style that encourages individual creativity and freedom of self-expression, is one of the most popular dance forms today.  Modern Dance fuses a variety of dance genres into one expressive medium. This diversity in movement helps the student have a better understanding and kinesthetic awareness of the four elements of dance: space, time, shape and movement dynamics. Through a variety of structured exercised the dance student will also have a chance to improve flexibility, strength and coordination Students in this class will perform one number in our annual recital.
